Design Bureau is a part of the internal multi-disciplined team charged with guiding the design for the most significant renewal ever of the historic main Terminal building at Central Station.

The renewal of the Terminal aims to prepare for future growth in the precinct and the emergence of a new hub of innovation. Central is Australia’s most significant transport interchange, but it has not been able to capitalise on this to enhance the surrounding community. The vision of the renewal is to create a dynamic new retail, community, and cultural destination along with enhancing the core transport function of the building.

The renewal opens more of the building to public access with new retail spaces, market halls and enhanced plazas and colonnades.

The fabulous heritage of the building is celebrated with a significant renewal of the Grand Concourse, former Booking Hall and Central Electric Building.

New connections are also created, improving access and legibility, particularly between Eddy Avenue and the Grand Concourse.

Stage 1 is currently underway, and construction is due to start soon.
