ROLE: Design Manager
CLIENT: Western Parkland City Authority
In 2021, we were working with the Western Parkland City Authority, a NSW State Government agency charged with many responsibilities, including creating a third major city centre for the Sydney metropolitan region. In 2018, the regional planning authority (Greater Sydney Commission) published the metropolitan three cities plan, including establishing a brand new third major centre in the western half of the broader metro area.
Our work guided the development of the master plan, place activation, transport integration, and regional integration. We also drove the overall aesthetic through visualisation and fly-through modelling prepared in partnership with Virtual Ideas.
Working as part of the client-side team, we became closely engaged with a broad cluster of NSW Government departments and agencies, including Transport for NSW, Planning, Premier and Cabinet, Schools NSW, Metro, Treasury and Infrastructure NSW. The complexity of creating a new city centre requires vision and values alignment and collaboration across all of these stakeholders.

Stage one of the city will open in late 2026, aligned with the opening of a Metro station(s), the new airport just to the north of the site, a central science research facility (CSIRO), and a large Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility, along with early retail, hotels, community and university facilities.
In the 2021 NSW Budget, an allocation of approx $1 billion was made to deliver city precinct establishment works supporting the opening in late 2026 setting this exciting project on a robust pathway for realisation.
“The Bradfield City Centre will grow and evolve over the next 30 years to become a cyber-secure, hydrogen-ready location for advanced industries. It will support wider employment, education and training opportunities in the Western Parkland City and drive the creation of tens of thousands of jobs.”
