Sunshine, located 12km west of Melbourne CBD, is destined to become a second CBD for metropolitan Melbourne. WW+P have been looking at transport possibilities and how options potentially re-structure and urbanise the form of the city.
Sunshine is poised to become a progressive and modern CBD of the West with significant new rail investment, flagged as a key innovation cluster, close proximity to Tullamarine Airport, and easy access to a dynamic and growing workforce.
The project looked at the impact and opportunity offered by the addition of faster regional rail, airport rail, and the suburban loop rail, all stopping and transferring at Sunshine.
The large renewal opportunity was considered through a heritage, open space and community connection lens. Due to the scale of the renewal, we also looked at the renewal of Albion Station to the north, planned to serve an expanding education precinct and a major new regional park and sports facilities.
Brimbank City Council has used the work to help define and promote the vision for Sunshine with stakeholders and State Government agencies.

“Sunshine Station Super Hub potential new concourse plaza space connected with integrated and wide pedestrian ramps, ensuring that the station precinct feels as part of the vibrant CBD and not a stand-alone station.”
Sunshine Super Hub Report, 2021
“presents a transformational opportunity to revitalise employment uses, provide complementary residential uses and better integrate the area with the rebuilt Albion Station.”
