The NSW Government is making a significant investment into the education infrastructure of Meadowbank. This project requires the preparation of a Master Plan (with Studio GL) and coordinating inputs from a broad group of NSW Government agencies. This project establishes a new paradigm for intra-government coordination, community building, active transport enhancement and applying movement and place principles. Along with guiding the master plan, we represented the GSC on a whole of Government Steering Committee.
The core of the Precinct will consist of a high school, primary school and technology-focused TAFE on one integrated campus. The Master Plan proposes a series of projects and improvements grouped into Place and Movement categories that show how the Precinct core will interact with and enhance the amenities of the surrounding frame area. The Master Plan will lead to the preparation of a place-based Business Case and other projects, managed through a robust whole-state government coordination process (the Working Group).
We led the Master Plan process on behalf of the Greater Sydney Commission, coordinating the work of urban design and transport subconsultants, stakeholders, and a broad group of NSW State Government agencies.
To improve the liveability and active movement connectivity within a highly constrained neighbourhood that has seen considerable infill development and urban renewal. With the NSW State Government building two new schools and TAFE adding extensive new facilities, reconnecting and respecting the existing community and accommodating new community participants becomes the critical imperative for the area to continue to thrive.
A diverse NSW Government working group informs the master plan and coordinates School development and transport investment. This working group will manage a place-based business case for delivering the project.

“The NSW Government is reimagining the way we learn and connect. The new Meadowbank Education and Employment Precinct will have education at its heart while also connecting students to training and employment opportunities with local industry and the surrounding community. It will be an open, safe place where locals can access shared facilities and new community spaces.”
Vision for Meadowbank, 2020
Design Bureau (on Wallumedegal land) acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work, and thrive.
We respect and learn from their cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters, sky, and communities and their enduring contributions.
